Athlete of the week 8/3-8/10
Andi Kreling
Andi Kreling is a graduating senior who played volleyball and swam at Kearney high school. Andi is a freak athlete who seems to excel at everything she tries. In volleyball she dominates including being an all-American, all district and conference honors while leading her team to district championships. Andi decided senior year to go out for swim and proceeds to win state which helped her earn cornier tribune female athlete of the year for Kearney. She is an extremely hard worker which is hard to say usually for kids who are as naturally gifted as she is. When she started her vertical was just 21 inches and at her last testing in April, she hit 27 inches and we were unable to get her final testing before she left for college, but we think she would have been close to 30. We are proud of all she’s accomplished, and we believe she will continue to dominate as she heads to Arizona State to play volleyball.
Theo Gibson
Theo is an incoming sophomore at Liberty North where he plays football basketball and runs track. When Theo first came in, he was a very raw athlete who struggled in the workouts. We knew he has a lot of potential with his frame and what he came in with build wise, but he had a lot of things he could work on to get better. When he started in March, he had only a 23-inch vertical and now he is known as one of our athletes with bunnies and can dunk already. He is a very fast athlete and will continue to get faster as he gets older and continues to work. He adds to what already is a scary Liberty North Football squad. When he started, he was deadlifting 155 and now he is up to 300 pounds. He is making crazy jumps and we can’t wait to what he does this year on the field all year. He is going to be a menace for the next 3 years in all 3 sports.
Lane Cook
Lane cook is an incoming 8th grader at Kearney who plays football and baseball. At first glance people could underestimate Lane's ability and strength because of his stature but we assure you looks can be deceiving. He is one of the hardest working and strongest 8th graders we have at the gym and often people are surprised about just what he can do. When he started his deadlift was 65 pounds and now, he has worked to get it up to 275 in 7 months. When he started his vertical was only 13.7 inches and now, he is into the 20’s and continuing to make huge strides. We love to see the hard work pay off for such a great kid and we can’t wait to see the development we believe he will continue to have throughout high school.
